Dr. Susan Strohm

Susan M. Strohm is a Sam Dan assistant instructor at A Mountain Wind Martial Arts. She teaches both adult and childrens classes and assists her instructor, Mr. Scott Merrill, with special Black Belt classes to help those who are testing for advanced rank.
Dr. Strohm started training in Tang Soo Do in 1992 at Penn State Martial Arts Group. Dr. Strohm continues to train with Mr. Scott Merrill under the guidance of Master Michael Kaye and Master Michael White. She quickly became involved in studio and Association activities and is currently the Chair of the WTSDA Video Committee. Dr. Strohm tested for 1st degree black belt in 1997 and 2nd degree black belt in 2001. In addition to numerous Association commendations and awards, she was honored in 2001 with the prestigious Region #8 Roundtable Award.
She has a special interest in the history and philosophy of martial arts and serves as the caretaker of the library shared by the PSMAG and AMWMA studios. Students from both studios have access to this library which contains books, videos, audio tapes and essays covering a wide variety of subjects.
Dr. Strohm is on the faculty in the College of Communications at the Pennsylvania State University where she teaches and conducts research in advertising, health communications and the role of media in social conflict and social change. She has also served as College Coordinator for Penn State’s Honors Program since 1989. She holds a B.A. in economics and political science from the University of Wisconsin and an M.A. and Ph.D. in mass communications research from the University of Minnesota. She lives in Lemont, PA, with her husband, Dr. Patrick Parsons, an E Dan in the WTSDA.
