Youth Classes

Traditional martial arts teaches children skills which last a life time. A Mountain Wind Martial Arts is a traditionally structured studio whose instructors are internationally certified through our parent organization, the World Tang Soo Do Association. Our youth classes are specially designed for children aged 5 through 12 years old. These classes introduce very young children to the martial arts by exercises in basic skills which stress coordination and self-discipline to help develop proper focus and attention. As your child progresses through our standardized curriculum, which is utilized in our 700+ affiliated studios around the world, they will achieve greater self-confidence and self-esteem. Your child will have fun while learning both the physical side of martial arts and how to succeed in life. What Your Child Will Learn in Our Program
- Respect – One of the basic premises of the martial arts is respect. We will teach your child respect first and then technique.
- Self-discipline – While we use the oriental theory of a warrior’s discipline in our training, it is geared towards the level of understanding of a child to teach self-control as their minds and bodies mature.
- Coordination – A child’s coordination will improve by repetition of our routine physical techniques.
- Good behavior – Our enforcement of answering “yes, sir/ma’am” and our teaching of other positive attitude requirements help shape your child’s behavior in a positive direction.
- Patience – Many children have gotten used to instant gratification which is common in our hi-tech world. Our classes will help to bring out your child’s innner calmness as they experience achievement through the progression of our belt system. They will learn to pursue goals with an “always finish what you start” attitude.
- Concentration – Your child will be taught to put their “all out effort” in every class. They will learn the three keys of concentration – focus of mind, focus of eyes and focus of bodies – which is one of the most important benefits or our program. It has been found that the powers of concentration learned in martial arts classes are transferred into a child’s academic performance.
- Cooperation – Group training with other children teachs the skill of teamwork. Teamwork skills are a valuable resource throughout the course of a lifetime.
- Responsibility – In our program, your child will learn that they must not only do the right thing but they must do the right thing for the right reasons. While it is easy to do something because you fear punishment, we will teach your child personal responsibility which helps them to choose the correct path on their own. They will learn both sides of responsibility – good deeds make them feel good and a willingness to accept the consequences for any incorrect actions.
